Family to be honored for mesothelioma research fundraising

On June 11, 2010, at the International Symposium on Malignant Mesothelioma, the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation will honor the Ruble family for their efforts in raising money for treatment research for the asbestos cancer mesothelioma. The family raised $100,000 from fundraising events and letter campaigns. The money was awarded to a researcher at the Memorial Sloan-Kattering Cancer Center. The researcher will use the money towards research geared to determining how to use the body's own immune cells to selectively kill mesothelioma cancer cells. This type of mesothelioma treatment technique is known as immunotherapy.
